IDEA #1 | STARTUP

Win-loss Reporting for Hiring 📊

You can’t win ‘em all

💡 TLDR: A platform which helps companies to better understand why employees are joining or leaving their company.

1. Problem/Opportunity

Business is all about the people.

That’s why understanding why people are choosing to join or leave the company is really important.

But for many company’s they have no data on why someone they send an offer to chooses not join the company. Similarly, when someone leaves the company and HR completes an exit interview most employees can’t be honest about why they’re leaving.

This is a critical gap companies have in understanding their business and hiring processes.

So let’s build a business to solve this.

2. Solution

Create a platform which helps companies to better understand why employees are joining or leaving their company.

Here’s how it works. The business signs up to the platform. For hiring, HR teams or recruiters working with the company send a link to the candidate once they’ve decided to join or not join the company with a questionnaire to complete. The data for individuals is anonymised so candidates can be completely honest. It is aggregated and shared with the company over time so they can get an understanding of why people are choosing to join or not join a company.

Similarly for employees leaving the business they are given a customized survey to complete, similar to an exit interview, however the feedback is also anonymised so the business can get honest feedback on why the person left.

3. Business Model 🏦

Go-to-market: You could start this as an agency using existing software to prove out the concept with companies, then build out the platform from there

Monetisation: charge businesses a subscription fee to use the platform

Startup Costs: Next to nothing.

4. How You’ll Get Rich 💰

Sell the business to a HR software platform, like Personio, who could bolt this product on to their offering

IDEA #2 | CASH FLOW BUSINESS

Space Cremation Service 🌌

The final frontier

💡 TLDR: A service which allows people to scatter their loved ones ashes in space.

1. Problem/Opportunity

This idea may sound a little nuts…but stick with us. It’s a massive opportunity.

Cremations have exploded in popularity in recent years. The data speaks for itself (2015 onwards are projections).

With cremations becoming more and more popular people are looking to spread their loved one’s ashes in special places. So how about space?

If Tom Scott is able to send garlic bread to space surely people should be able to offer that service to their loved ones.

2. Solution

Create a service which allows people to scatter their loved ones ashes in space.

Here’s how it works. When a loved one passes away a portion of their ashes are given to the company and are stored in a small urn. At the family’s request the company then releases a high altitude balloon which brings the ashes above the carmen line (the start of space) to scatter their ashes among the stars.

The balloon is equipped with cameras so it can be watched live or a recording can be watched by the family if they wish to see it.

It’s an incredibly simple business and there are some companies that already offer this, such as Celestis, but in a market growing this fast there’s room for new entrants.

3. Business Model 🏦

Go-to-market: Start by doing some test flights then work with crematoriums to get the word out there about your service

Monetisation: charge a fee for the service (could be a few hundred or thousand dollars)

Startup Costs: This shouldn’t be too expensive to get going. You’ll need a little capital for the high altitude balloons, cameras etc.

4. How You’ll Get Rich 💰

This doesn’t feel like an exit play, more of a cash cow business that also gives you the satisfaction of helping families to honour the memories of their loved ones.

THE MONEYSHOT

Making $1m from Wearing T-shirts

Jason Zook loved t-shirts. So much so that he had an idea. Why don’t I charge people to wear their t-shirts?

So in 2008 I Wear Your Shirt was born. Each day Jason would get a company to send him their t-shirt, each day he would wear their shirt and let the internet know about it.

I Wear Your Shirt started off small but ended hugely. Over the space of just 4 years, Jason made over $1,000,000 wearing people’s t-shirts every day.

What a fucking legend. One of the best business ideas we’ve seen.
