Geoguessr for Languages 🖥️
What in the word?
Available Domain: Languessr.com
💡 TLDR: A game where you are shown videos of people speaking different languages and you have to guess where they’re from
1. Problem/Opportunity❓
The Problem/Opportunity: For anyone who hasn’t heard of it Geoguessr is an incredibly fun game where players have to guess where they are in the world from Google Street View imagery. The game has become insanely popular, with over 50 million players…some of whom get pretty addicted.
So naturally this got us thinking, could you do a slightly different take on the game? We think so.
Market Size: There are 50m registered geoguessr players, we reckon a lot of them would give this a go
2. Solution ✅
The Idea: A game where you are shown videos of people speaking different languages and you have to guess where they’re from
How it Works:
2 users join a game against each other which takes place over 10 rounds
They are shown videos of people speaking and have 45 seconds to guess where they’re from, earning points as they do
The closer you are the more points you get and whoever has the most points wins
Go-to-market: You’ll find your early users in geoguessr forums and subreddits
Business Model: Ads on the site
Startup Costs: This should be pretty cheap to get going
Competitors: Some people have tried to make this, but did to a poor quality. The demand is there.
3. How You’ll Get Rich 💰
Hold: Similar to geoguessr this could be a great cash cow business, as we covered previously

THE MONEYSHOT
How “Airbnb for Pets” Made $2.3bn
If you’ve never been to a startup weekend or a hackathon, then this is your sign to go to one.
Because it changed this founders life forever.
In 2011 Philip Kimmey went to a Startup Weekend in Seattle, where he met investor Greg Gottesman. Throughout the course of the weekend they worked on an idea for an online marketplace for people to buy and sell pet care services including pet sitting and dog walking.
Basically Airbnb for Pets.
Kimmey and Gottesman worked on the idea for a few months after Rover.com’s other co-founder Aaron Easterly came onboard as CEO later in the summer of 2011, the company was ready for prime-time.
The company’s first round of investment funding happened in April 2012, led by Gottesman’s Madrona Venture Group.
But things really changed in July 2013 when Petco announced a strategic investment in the company, including a cross-promotion deal.
This supercharged growth in the business and after surviving the pandemic and going public via a SPAC, the business surpassed a billion-dollar revenue run rate.
In fact earlier this year Blackstone, the private equity powerhouse, finished their acquisition of Rover for $2.3bn.
All because of a simple idea at a startup weekend.
