From $0 to $4m ARR in 4 Weeks

We cover a lot of fast-growing businesses on Half Baked. But this might be the fastest we’ve ever seen.

Because these two founders managed to take their business from $0 to $4m ARR in just 4 weeks (kinda).

This is their story.

Anton Osika (left) is basically a genius.

The Swede has been coding since he was 12 years old and graduated top of his class from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden’s largest technical university.

After graduating from college in 2015 Anton did a lot of cool s**t. He was the first technical hire at Sana (AI knowledge tools for enterprise) and in 2020 he co-founded Depict.ai (dynamic product grids for e-commerce stores). The latter went through Y-Combinator and raised $20m in funding. But his breakout success didn’t come until he teamed up with Fabian Hedin.

Fabian is another Swedish genius. He’s been building businesses since he was 10 and sold a prop-tech startup while still in high school called Tenfast.

He attended the KTH Royal Institute of Technology a few years after Anton, graduating in 2021, and like Anton went on to work on cool projects. In fact Fabian actually worked on the computer interface used in Stephen Hawking’s wheelchair. In 2022 he went to work for Depict.ai which is where he met Anton.

While they enjoyed working together at Depict the pair had bigger aspirations. They wanted to allow anyone who wanted to create software to be able to do so, not just the 1% who can code today.

So in October 2023 the pair teamed up to realize their dream.

They founded Lovable.dev.

They spent the next year building their software. They wanted to create ChatGPT for building websites where users could simply type what they wanted to build, however existing AI tools got stuck in this process. During their development cycle Anton and and Fabian however found a system for making more reliable agentic systems. How? Well they could tell you but they’d have to kill you. It’s one of those things.

In October 2024 they launched the beta for their first product which they named GPT Engineer. Shortly after launching the beta the product reached the front page of Product Hunt and Hacker News and the team had a waiting list of over 27,000 people.

Around this time they also announced the close of a pre-seed funding round of €6.8 million (approximately $7.5 million).

A few weeks later they officially went live and after just four weeks they reached $4m of ARR, which has to be some kind of record right? As for where the business will go the sky’s the limit. This may be the first time you’ve ever heard of lovable.dev, but it certainly won’t be the last.

But you may be thinking “ok great I just need to be a super genius and I can start a successful company.” But the lesson here is not in the founders, it’s in the product.

More and more tools are appearing everyday that will allow idea people like you and me to launch software products in no time and for next-to-no cost. There’s going to be a Cambrian explosion of software products built in the coming years. So when everyone is able to build software for almost $0 the thing that matters most is your idea.
